(en)Gendered (in)Equities: The Gallery Tally Poster Project organized by Micol Hebron
Gallery Tally is a crowd-sourced, social engagement art project organized by artist Micol Hebron in which 1100+ artists from around the world have joined the effort to collect and visualize statistical data regarding ratios of male and female artists represented by top contemporary art galleries. Artists are invited to make one poster for each gallery, in whatever style or medium they chose. All posters are 24” x 36”. We started with galleries in Los Angeles and quickly worked to tally galleries around the world.
There have been four exhibitions of posters so far, in Southern California (at West Los Angeles College, Irvine Fine Art Center, and ForYourArt on Wilshire) and in Puerto Rico (Área: Lugar de Proyectos). We are gearing up for exhibitions in Paris, Miami, Puerto Rico, Berlin, and hopefully many other cities in the next year.
Included below are the four posters I designed for this project.
